Our team consists of four Master students from the Bren School of Environmental
Science & Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Together we are Team Kahuwai. |
Natalie Dornan
Project Manager
Project Manager
Natalie Dornan is a first-year Master student specializing in Water Resources Management and Pollution Prevention & Remediation. Natalie earned her Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the University of Hawai῾i at Mānoa in 2016, where she studied coastal ecology and management. She comes to the Bren School with a background of 6 years working in the marine science field. Her experience encompasses work in both coastal and open ocean environments for a variety of academic, state, and federal organizations. Through her work at Bren, Natalie hopes to further her interdisciplinary training on how changes in land use and management of watersheds influence marine ecosystems.

Tara Jagadeesh
Outreach Manager
Outreach Manager
Tara Jagadeesh is a first-year Master student specializing in Coastal Marine Resources Management with a focus on Strategic Environmental Communications. Tara earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Minor in Field Studies from McGill University in Montréal, Canada in 2017. After realizing the disconnect between science, policy, and the public, she came to Bren to learn how to more effectively bridge that gap. Tara is particularly interested in developing resilient coastal and urban communities which address the Environmental Justice concerns of many minority groups. In her future work, she hopes to bring to light the impact of environmental degradation on people and ultimately foster more equitable decision-making.

Erica Johnson
Finance Manager
Finance Manager
Erica Johnson is a first-year Master student specializing in Water Resources Management. Erica graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Biology. After undergrad, Erica implemented and coordinated the UCSB-Smithsonian Scholars Program with the UCSB Office of Education Partnerships. Inspired by her outreach work in conservation science, Erica is now interested in addressing the impact of water resource issues on aquatic environments. The recent California drought has made her question our resilience, the lasting effects of the drought, population growth, and poorly regulated use of groundwater. Through her time at Bren and her future career, Erica therefore hopes to improve the management of water resources and work to protect our precious aquatic ecosystems.
